Description:
CETRIZ is Cetirizine dihydrochloride, an anti-H1 agent devoid of any significant anticholinergic or antiserotonin effects. At therapeutic doses, it induces neither sedation nor behavioral changes. This may be explained by the fact that Cetriz does not cross the blood brain barrier. Cetriz rapidly inhibits certain effects produced by exogenous histamine. Finally, it inhibits the cutaneous reaction induced by agents which are believed to take part in the allergic reaction induced without any central effects. As a piperazine derivative and metabolite of hydroxyzine, is described as a non-sedating antihistamine which is long-acting and has some mast-cell stabilizing activity. It appears to have low potential for drowsiness in usual doses and to be virtually free of antimuscarinic activity. Indicated for the symptomatic relief of allergic conditions including seasonal rhinitis as well as pruritus and urticaria of allergic origin chronic urticaria.
